Political Science 101

Political science is a social science. Social science is one of the three divisions of science, the other two being natural science and formal science. Social science focuses its studies on human aspects of the world. Social science is based less in quantitative data and puts more emphasis on qualitative data, which is usually left up to scientists’ interpretation.

Political Science Introduction:
Under the category of social science, political science is the theory and practice of everything related to politics. Political science studies and attempts to predict governments, public policies, and the processes involved with political practices, systems and behavior. Within the field of political science, there are several subfields including political theory, political philosophy, political ideology, international relations, political studies, comparative politics and political economy. Political science is considered a “soft science”, meaning that it does not use hard data, but rather its studies are very subjective in nature and are left up to interpretation. Political science classes help prepare students for a career in politics, but may also train students about political knowledge for use in another career.

Political Science 101
Political science 101 basically explains all the decisions that are made by leaders who are in power within a government. It also includes the roles and the government and political behavior behind the government and the policies they create. Political science 101 then studies these decisions and policies to evaluate their effectiveness, such as how stable the government and country are, the allocation of wealth throughout the country, and the state of peace. Political scientists generally have a mission of providing theses after analyzing the current state of politics, while others tend to create what is called “normative” theses, which make policy recommendations.

A person who is highly skilled in political science knowledge, the way governments and policies are implemented and how they affect the country as a whole, may serve as a political adviser for a key politician. Alternatively, political science 101 experts who have completed a degree in the field may serve as politicians themselves and run for office. Political science experts generally work within and closely with the government, as advisers in political parties, or they may even work as civil servants as well. It is also not uncommon for political science 101 experts to work for organizations and agencies that are non-governmental, or may even work within a political cause or movement.

Political science is a more diverse and flexible field of study then most people think. Instead of just being solely helpful in politics, political science 101 knowledge and skills can come in handy for large corporations that are reliant on key internal decisions to make them successful. Political science graduates may be hired by corporations to provide expertise and knowledge, especially for the sake of public relations with customers and the public as a whole. In addition, they may be hired by private enterprises that require a great deal of critical thinking, such as think tanks, research institutions, and public relation companies.
