A political science major gains knowledge and skills through a blend of current and historical events, from not only one perspective, but from many. A political science student examines contexts of governmental decisions, based on circumstances, political climate at the time, possible agendas and the beliefs of political leaders in power. A political science major will typically focus on one general area, such as international politics, local governmental politics, or political structure. This microscopic focus is important for students aspiring to become an adviser so he or she can provide insight and knowledge to political leaders and decision makers.
